That was a beautiful thing Don Cherry did, to salute the two fallen officers. That’s the way it should be. . Best wishes for the families of the officers, and may they both rest in peace.

Regarding Don Cherry in general, I can’t fathom why a US network would not capitalize on his personality. He’s the John Madden of hockey

I swear, if one network in the US devoted one night a week to a game involving Cherry, I think it would it would grow the game in the States immensely.

Can we stop talking about the questionable hits and start talking about why the NHL doesn’t standardize their additional off-ice discipline (AKA, suspensions and fines)? Seriously, why do we have have to go thru this circus after some guy gets carted off the ice on a stretcher because another guy wasn’t thinking? No one should have to guess what the penalty will be. It should be the same for everybody, regardless.

It should be well known beforehand what a player’s going to get running another guy: X number of games and Y percentage of his salary automatically docked for Z action. I’m so tired of this good ol’ boys network where the NHL gives out the penalties it wants to based purely on a player’s level of fame and his reputation. It totally makes the NHL look like the banana republic of pro sports. We’re not in the 1950s anymore, you know?

If anything, the guy is actually an example that the notion of having an enforcer to ‘police’ the game ‘works’ is actually bull plop. The teams Cooke has ‘wronged’ against nearly all carried a guy of at least some weight in the fighting stakes and yet Cooke is still running around like an idiot while said ‘heavy weights’ sit on the bench because they can’t contribute with the puck and a middle weight (at best) like Cooke ain’t gonna fight them!

cooke and downie should start an agency.

I believe in an eye for an eye. Someone should take Cookes head off with the exact same play and see how he likes it. He might think twice about the next time.
